Ruth Mary Aruna

K. Ruth Mary Aruna is a Senior Clinical Specialist for Wound & Ostomy in King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah. She is a Registered Nurse, started her career as a critical care nurse, and spent 13 years within the critical care context. Thereafter she specialized into Wound & Ostomy Specialist, which spans a total of 17 years to date.

In 2009, she completed training on Diabetic foot, at King Saud University; Riyadh in 2009. She showed passion in Wound Care and pursued the international wound care training by joining the International Inter-professional Wound Care Course (IIWCC) at the University of Toronto (Canada) in 2015. She also completed her Master’s degree in Skin integrity and Wound management from Hertfordshire University from UK in 2017 and Ostomy Care training from UAE in 2019.

She contributes to scientific meetings in the field of wound management, Courses, International and national wound care seminars, Workshops and train health care workers. She has participated in many international and national seminars and has lectured extensively in KSA on wound management related topics on skin integrity, pressure Injuries and diabetic foot ulcers. She has organized many national and international conferences, workshops in wound & Ostomy management.

Ruth introduced and initiated a Wound Care Department at the Armed Forces Hospital Southern Region Khamis Mushayt in 2013 and introduced the first Wound, Ostomy and continence Champion program in King Faisal specialist Hospital and Research Centre in 2019.

Ruth says, “I truly love what I do. I have a busy schedule with a lot of latitude. One of the things I like about my position is that I am working in a Zero Harm- High Reliability Organization (HRO) to pursue a Zero Harm journey towards prevention of pressure injuries. I am continuously motivated where I see wounds making progress and where my contribution makes a difference. I also enjoy the fact that I can support my great team of staff and share my knowledge and enthusiasm for wound & Ostomy ’’.
